Scientific Description
The FOCAS Research Institute - DIT, was established under the Higher Education Authority Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions, Cycle 1 (1999-2001), co-funded by the EU.

It is a one-stop-shop for characterisation of materials and processes and operates an open access policy with expert technical and scientific support.

Examples of recent notable research outputs include novel technologies for cervical cancer screening , novel technologies for security and brand protection and antibacterial surface coatings. It furthermore underpins postgraduate research as well as undergraduate project work and undergraduate and postgraduate course curriculum development.
