MSSI has 43 PIs supervising over 154 PhD students and 32 post-doctoral researchers. Since 2010 MSSI researchers have generated over €99M in research income and over €20M in large capital grants.

Several equipments are available for atomic force microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, laser scanning confocal microscopy, mechanical testing, nanoindentation,gas chemisorption / physisorption optical microscopy, particle size analysis, raman spectroscopy, scanning or transmission electron microscopy, vibrating samble magnetometer, X-ray diffraction and photoelectron spectroscopy.
