Scientific Description
Mission and objectives
The Brain Imaging Network Core facilities are hosted at ICNAS/IBILI, University of Coimbra, and features a fully transnational biomedical research effort, from design of new molecular probes to human imaging of structure, chemistry and function with a focus on the human brain. BIN started its activities in 2008 and continues to operate as a mature imaging infrastructure facility. For enabling open access, BIN has a significant upgrade policy of the facility capacity. BIN has 8 university research nodes and several European networks collaborating. BIN mission includes developing and exploiting new imaging technologies, and driving development of and access to state-of-the-art imaging instrumentation (MRI, EEG, TMS, PET, CT, (and combined approach).Initiatives such as the Brain Imaging Network are instrumental to help solve the societal challenge of obtaining a sustainable health care systems, by helping to establish the use of the most updated imaging technologies to provide advanced diagnostics, in combination with better and more cost efficient treatment.
