Scientific Description
Mission and objectives
The Proteomics Unit is a joint effort of the Center for Genomics Regulation and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra to create an innovative core facility with the mission to offer high-quality proteomics services with strong added-value to the scientific community. The CRG/UPF Proteomics Unit supports basic and translational research projects and it ensures the quality, reproducibility, robustness and traceability of all the offered services. The services offered by the Proteomics Unit are open to all researchers regardless of their institution and the access procedures and service fees are publicly available. Moreover, the Proteomics Unit conducts methodological research as an essential task to keep the unit at the forefront of the proteomics field, and establishes all necessary collaborations to develop new analytical methods, novel mass spectrometric pipelines and new data analysis approaches. Both, development and implementation of new methods and analytical tools constitutes the second essential pillar of the unit to guarantee high-quality services to the users in the mid- and long-term run. Finally community training and dissemination constitutes the third pillar of the CRG Proteomics Unit as a true investment that results in awareness of the current proteomics challenges, improvement of experiment designs, in better project planning, and in realistic expectations, thus leading to better scientific results and higher research quality. The Proteomics Unit of the Center for Genomics Regulation and the University Pompeu Fabra has five high-end mass spectrometers (including a Orbitrap Fusion Lumos, a LTQ-Orbitrap XL, a LTQ-Orbitrap Velos, an QTRAP 5500, and a QTOF 5600), seven HPLC, as well as all the other support infrastructure (wet laboratory, cell culture, ITC, etc) required for providing high-end proteomics services. Moreover, it organizes several training and dissemination activities such as the “Annual Proteomics Symposium” (2009-2017), the “Courses@CRG: Advanced Proteomics Course” (2013-2017), the “EMBO Practical Course on Targeted Proteomics” (2014-2017), and it is a reference Proteomics Unit of the Spanish National Health System as part of the “Plataforma de Recursos Biomoleculares y Bioinformáticos (ProteoRed, Instituto Carlos III)”.
