GTIMC is open to researchers for R&D activities where waves, currents and wind are the main environmental input. Large scale model tests can be performed in GTIMC facilities.
GTIMC personnel have a long experience in testing scale models of coastal defenses, renewable energy devices, ports, mooring systems, hydraulic experimentañl devices, etc. Prototipes generally designed by research centres or particular clients.
Wave tank can simoultaneously produce currents. These currents can be colinear or not to the waves propagation. Current direction and intensity can be modified.
In addition to waves and currents, GTIMC can produce winds in any direction and intensities up to 75 km/h. A portable wind blower device can be placed anywhere along the wave tank.
30 m x 44 m x 4 m (long, wwide, depth) with a practicable center pit of 10 m water depth for offshore models. Wave dissipators are installed in three sides of the tank, while a versatile wave generator can be found in the fourth side.
GTIMC has cutting edge measuring technologies for all physical parameters of interest in wave/current/wind model testing. 3 different technologies for wave measuring, 3 techniques for wind measuring, Qualisys system for 6-DOF floating devices movement, PIV-LIV technologies, HD-HS video technologies, pressure gauges, load cells, etc.
64 individual wave paddles can generate any kind of directional waves required. Paddle configuration can change for piston type (shallow water tests) or flap type (deep water tests).Wave paddles can generate all kind of waves: monochromatic, random, unidirectional, multidirectional, solitary, spectral, bimodal, et. Wave generator is equiped with active wave absorption.
A 10 Ton bridge crane allow to place the scale model in place when the scale model is portable and it is externaly manufactured and/or provided by researchers or private clients.
