Mission and objectives
Micoteca da Universidade do Minho (MUM) is a filamentous fungal culture collection hosted at Centro de Engenharia Biológica of Universidade do Minho since 1996. Since 2011 is certified under the ISO standard 9001 for deposit, preservation and supply of filamentous fungi. The Vision of MUM is “A world in which fungal diversity is preserved and available for all” with a defined Mission of “To be a resource centre for fungal biodiversity preservation and information, and create solutions for sustainable development and human well-being”.The quality policy is based on encouraging the motivation and involvement of all stakeholders in quality processes with a view to internalizing a culture of excellence and applied to all products and services.

Strain Supply

M.U.M. supplies strains to the scientific community, industry and services. To obtain strains from M.U.M. please send us a written request in official business paper with legal binding signature, stating the purpose for which the strains are required and the laboratory where the work will take place. Please provide the following elements:destination institution address, contact person, telefone and fax.

Deposit of cultures

M.U.M. accepts the deposit of strains by a third party provided the biological material can be preserved by the techniques in use in the collection. Class 3 organisms are not accepted. • Public deposit: The microbial strains deposited will be part of the open collection. To deposit strains in this manner please send us the filled in accessions form, together with two cultures of the organism. This type of deposit is free of charge for the depositor. • Safe deposit: In this kind of deposit the strains remain the property of the depositor. Strain distribution is restricted and subject to criteria defined by the depositor. Access to the strains is granted through a written request from the depositor. Confidentiallity on the information concerning the deposited strains is guaranteed. To deposit strains in this manner please send us the filled in accessions form, together with two cultures of the organism. For further information please contact the curator.
