Scientific Description
Mission and objectives
LatHort is a state-owned horticultural research centre governed by Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies. It provides full range of research in horticulture: breeding and cultivar testing, development of growing technologies, studies on genetic and plant pathology, development of new processing technologies and studies on chemical properties. The research is supported by appropriate infrastructure, like collections of horticultural crops (~2800 genotypes), experimental fields, laboratories of molecular biology, plant pathology and entomology, biochemistry, greenhouses, facilities for storage experiments and for development and testing of new processing products. Institute has long-term experience of national and international collaboration using its scientific capacity and infrastructure and is an active member of EUFRIN, EUCARPIA, ISHS, ECPGR networks. The collaboration is realized by the formal agreements with foreign institutions or within frame of international research projects, thus providing the access to infrastructure.
