Scientific Description
The Nordic Optical Telescope is a state-of-the-art 2.56m optical/near-IR telescope installed in 1989 at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma, Canarias, Spain. It is owned and operated by the NOT Scientific Association (NOTSA), a consortium of the natural science Research Councils or equivalent in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden and the University of Iceland. Nordic astronomers get obtain to observing time at the NOT through competitive applications and peers review, and European scientists similarly througk the EU-supported I3 network OPTICON. NOTSA is also a and a founding member of the ERA-NET ASTRONET.
