Scientific Description
Deltares is an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure. Throughout the world, we work on smart solutions, innovations and applications for people, environment and society. Our main focus is on deltas, coastal regions and river basins. Managing these densely populated and vulnerable areas is complex, which is why we work closely with governments, businesses, other research institutes and universities at home and abroad. For Deltares the quality of our expertise and advice is foremost. Knowledge is our core business. Deltares employs over 800 people and is based in Delft and Utrecht.

Access to hydraulic experimental facilities

Deltares provides access to a variety of hydraulic engineering research facilities and offers support in experimentation,

Deltares has the following laboratories: Bioremediation, Chemical water quality laboratory, Geochemical characterisation laboratory, Geotechnical laboratory facilities, Laboratory for microbial diversity

Instrumentation for hydraulic research

Deltares designs and builds state-of-the-art instruments to meet the instrumentation needs that exist in hydraulic research and engineering studies. These instruments can be used in laboratory tests but also in the field. Experienced instrumentation engineers can also design, build and adjust instruments to exacting specifications. Deltares provides measurement instruments, custom made instruments, calibration facilities, data acquisition systems, Delft-AUKE.

Facilities for field measurements

Facilities for well logging, GeoLab data, Geophysics facilities on land, Geotechnical monitoring, in-situ soil research, in-situ analysis of sediment and water quality.

Experimental facilities

Hydraulic and geotechnical engineering aspects often require models on large-scale or small-scale to study essential physical processes. Deltares had the following experimental facilities: Alpha Loop, Atlantic Basin, Delta Basin, Delta Flume, GeoCentrifuge, IOS basin, Model Hall, Pacific Basin, Rotating Annular Flume, Scheldt Flume.
