Scientific Description
The Berlin Ultrahigh Field Facility (B.U.F.F.) has been implemented on the Campus Berlin-Buch as an integral part of the ECRC. B.U.F.F. is equipped with a 3.0 Tesla and a 7.0 Tesla whole-body human MR scanner and a 9.4 Tesla animal MR system. B.U.F.F. provides the infrastructure for projects of an interdisciplinary imaging consortium with scientists and clinicians from the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, the Charité-University Medicine, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP). Cooperation agreements have been signed with Siemens Medical Solutions and Bruker Biospin.Research at B.U.F.F. concentrates on the development of magnetic resonance (MR) methodology and MR technology with a focus on new ways of mapping and probing morphology, function, physiology and metabolism together with explorations of the benefits and challenges of ultrahigh field MR (UHF-MR) to advance cardiovascular, neurovascular, molecular and other MR applications. These efforts are designed to spatially resolve and characterize (patho)physiological processes and biophysical mechanisms to promote a transfer from basic research to (pre)clinical studies and vice versa. B.U.F.F. is headed by Prof. Thoralf Niendorf.
